Here’s An Opinion On:

Do You Dream of Owning a Successful Family Business?

by

Edmond Dufrain

In the beginning of the life of a brand new business, whether a family business or not, the business and all the business serves and business aspects may be simple and small enough to be effectively handled by one, maybe two people. But as a business grows, and the demands on that business become greater, it is a good idea for a business owner to build up a team. And what better team than a team made up of family? A family business owned and operated by family members could be exactly what your business needs to be as successful as possible.

If you want to own a successful business, a family business may be a great route to take. In general, family members working for a family involved family company tend to be more excited about going to work and completing their jobs because they are working for their very own family business and are reporting to beloved family members, rather than some random boss that nobody likes. Another great perk to owning and running a family business is that you can take advantage of family members skills and services, rather than hunting around and hoping you can find an honest, reputable person to hire.

There are a couple of downsides to running a family business. One of these down sides may be that family members trying to complete different business services may not be exactly qualified for the jobs they are trying to complete. Or sometimes relationships between family members, whether positive or negative, may interfere with the family business and the work needing done. But for the most part, a family business tends to be much more successful than an individually owned business.

There are a couple of thing to keep in mind when looking to run a family business. If the following family business tips are followed and adhered to, you will be well on your way to owning and operating the family business you have always dreamed of!

The first thing to remember when opening/running a family business is that every employee, be they family members or not, needs a job description. Just because you have a group of family involved family members who all want their family owned family business to be successful doesn\’t mean they are all going to know what needs to be done. Make sure all family members involved in your family owned family business success know exactly what needs to be done and what they need to do to help ensure the family business success.

It is also important for a family business success to hold regular staff meetings for all the family involved family members. This will help keep everybody involved and included, and will improve business services, as well as the success of your family owned family business. Also, make sure you pay each family members a set, fair wage. Just because they are family members doesn\’t mean you can take advantage of their services. Treat your family owned family business like you would treat your family, and you will have family business success.

Siberian Huskies descend from the Eskimo dog which was a sledding dog used by the Inuit tribe in the Arctic regions of Greenland, Alaska and Canada. The Inuit tribe bred the most handsome, bright-eyed huskies and relied on their dogs heavily as pack animals, guard dogs and hunting companions. The Siberian Husky was purebred in Siberia for hundreds of years and was exported to Alaska in 1909 to use for sled-racing. Today’s Siberian Huskies are bred to retain the strong bodies, bright eyes and intelligence that the Inuit valued. The American Kennel Club recognized the Siberian Husky as a breed in 1930.

Modern Siberian Husky breeders attempt to retain the attractive and utilitarian characteristics of the breed. Siberian Huskies are members of the larger “Spitz” group of dogs and also have characteristics of this group. Typical Spitz characteristics are high-set, pointed ears, thick, double coats of fur (often white in part or whole), a furry, sickle-shaped tail and wolf-like personality traits such as independence and suspicion. Siberian Husky traits include all of the Spitz traits as well as distinctive facial markings, medium sized compact bodies, blue or brown eyes (or one of each color) and an overall wolf-like appearance.

Other characteristics required by the American Kennel Club include a height of twenty-one to twenty-three and one half inches for males and twenty to twenty-one inches tall for females, a weight of forty-five to sixty pounds for males) and thirty-five to fifty pounds for females, a scissors-bite (upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth), a smooth gait, a friendly, alert and mischievous expression and an outgoing personality.

YouTube Preview Image

The AKC does not disqualify the Siberian Husky for certain traits that would disqualify other breeds. These include bi-colored eyes, and “snow-nose” or a hyper-pigmentation of the nose in which part is black and part is flesh-colored. The reason the AKC does not disqualify the husky is that coloring is not seen as being important in pulling a sled.

Siberian Husky breeders try to retain both the attractive and utilitarian characteristics of the breed. Because of the breed’s natural tendency to be extremely active, huskies are not recommended for everyone. Breeders will tell you that there are high numbers of Siberian Huskies sitting in shelters and rescue centers because owners did not research the breed and could not handle their dogs once grown into adulthood. The most common, problematic behavioral traits of huskies are a tendency to run or escape, excessive howling, hyperactivity, inability to be left alone, stubbornness and shedding.

Finding good Siberian Husky breeders should begin in a northern climate. This breed is made for cold weather and potential owners and breeders should not reside in hot climates. Huskies can withstand negative fifty-degree temperatures and can suffer heatstroke in high temperatures. Word of mouth, Internet searches, local veterinarians, and shelters are all good starting points for locating good, local Siberian Husky breeders. It is never acceptable to buy a dog of any breed from a pet store. A medium to large dog like the Siberian Husky should not be caged or treated as merchandise that is shipped and sold to just anyone.

Good Siberian Husky breeders will have a list of questions for potential buyers to answer. They will want to ensure the owner is knowledgeable of how to care for Siberian Huskies and they will offer to provide specific Siberian Husky information. Breeders may also run or be affiliated with Siberian Husky rescue centers and they may refer buyers there to buy, foster, or adopt purebred Huskies rescued from inadequate living conditions.

About the Author: A lover of medium and large dog breeds, Andrew Preston enjoyed learning about Siberian Husky breeders. Siberian Husky breeders should educate potential owners about the wolf-like behavioral traits of this beautiful breed. Information about Siberian Husky breeders and other general Siberian Husky information is provided in this article.

How To Write A Funeral Speech

How To Write A Funeral Speech

by

Rebecca Veltri

Everyone will mourn the the death of a close loved one at least once in his life. In most cases during a funeral, a person who was particularly close with the recently deceased will be given the task of writing and delivering a eulogy at the near end of the service.

A eulogy is a type of speech that is delivered during a funeral service or a memorial. Close friends or family members of the deceased normally give eulogies. In some cases, a priest, minister or funeral director will be given the responsibility of delivering a eulogy. As early as the ancient Greek times, people were already giving eulogies for their loved ones who had recently passed away. The tradition of delivering a eulogy during funeral services continues even until today, although the practice of delivering eulogies isn\’t performed by some other religions.

Eulogies are one way to say one final farewell to the deceased loved one. By giving a speech about the experiences, kindness and special events that happened to the deceased before passing away, eulogies can also be an excellent way to celebrate the life that the deceased has once lived.

How Do You Write A Eulogy?

If you\’re thinking on how to write a eulogy, don\’t worry because writing a eulogy is a lot easier than you might think, and delivering it to the crowd is very much like telling a story. If you have a fear of public speaking, we have tips on how to lightly remedy this fear as well. The contents of a eulogy can be a chronicle of the life of the recently deceased. It can also contain the collected information and memories friends and family members have of the person who has recently passed away, or a story about all the achievements the deceased individuals has attained. If this is your first time writing a eulogy and you don\’t know where to start, there are general eulogy templates or formats that you can follow. These templates can work with all types of eulogies, be it a eulogy for a mother, or a eulogy for a friend.

YouTube Preview Image

Write An Introduction

The first thing to write about when writing a eulogy would be a very short introduction about yourself and your relationship with the person who passed away. Also don\’t forget to include in your introduction a brief but sincere appreciation message for the guests who sacrificed a bit of their time to attend the service. Make sure to say a special appreciation message to the guests who\’ve travelled far just to arrive at the funeral on time. Include in your introduction your condolences to the friends and family members of the recently deceased.

Write About the Memorable Characteristics Of the Deceased

Does the recently deceased have quirky attributes or habits that everyone knows about? Is there a fun and memorable story about the deceased that you want to share to the crowd? This is the part of the eulogy where you talk about it all. Write a short story about the life of the deceased, write about how much they have achieved within their short life. Talk about the passions of the deceased and how he or she decided to live their life. Tell people how much the deceased influenced the lives of other people.

Write About Comforting Ideas Or Thoughts

Recite an inspiring poem or quote related to the event. You can also read a passage of the favorite book of the deceased, or an uplifting funeral scripture verses from the Bible that can fit the occasion.

Closure

Write a summary about your eulogy. This is also the part where you can write and deliver your final farewells to the deceased.

Tips On How To Write And Deliver A Eulogy

Now that you know how a eulogy goes because of the eulogy template that we\’ve provided you, there are certain tips that you might also want to know on how to deliver and write a good eulogy.

If you don\’t know what to exactly write about, you can do your research by looking at old photo albums and by looking for memorabilia. Even old letters written for and by the deceased can be a great source of content for your eulogy. Organize the information that you\’ve gathered and figure out how you\’re going to connect these stories. You can write a draft of your eulogy from all the information you\’ve gathered. Reread it to determine on which parts need to be edited and polished.

If one of your greatest fears is public speaking, don\’t worry because you\’re not the only one to have this type of fear. Even people who give frequent speeches, like politicians, consider public speaking as their number one fear. There are certain techniques that you might want to follow in order to deliver a great eulogy. Before starting your eulogy, take a deep breath and scan the crowd. If you\’re worried about forgetting the things that you are supposed to say, don\’t fret because it\’s perfectly acceptable to carry a copy of the eulogy to the stage or podium. To be on the safe side, bring a copy of the speech with you, even though you\’re sure that you\’ve memorized it.

Always remember that no two people are alike, which is why it is best to write your own eulogy coming from the bottom of your heart, instead of trying to copy and edit one. It doesn\’t matter how excellent other eulogies seem to be. The best eulogies are always the ones that are sincere and come from the heart.

Renowned University of Michigan college football coach Bo Schembechler, died Friday at the age of 77.

Schembechler collapsed at the studios of WXYZ-TV after taping a TV show on the eve of the Wolverines’ No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown with perennial rival Ohio State. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he died at 11:42 a.m. “The electrical part of the heart was working fine but the mechanical part was not working,” said Dr. Shukri David, the head of cardiology at Providence Hospital. “The heart was sending signals to the heart muscle to contract. The muscle was not responding.”

Schembechler had a heart attack on the eve of his first Rose Bowl in 1970 and another one in 1987. He had two quadruple heart-bypass operations, and doctors implanted a pacemaker to regulate his heartbeat after he became ill during a taping at WXYZ on Oct. 20.

“This is a tremendous shock and an irreplaceable loss,” University of Michigan president Mary Sue Coleman said at a news conference at Providence Hospital in Southfield, where the coach died.

The seven-time Big Ten coach of the year compiled a 194-48-5 record at Michigan from 1969-89. Schembechler’s record in 26 years of coaching was 234-65-8.

Corus Group, the world’s fifth largest steel producer, announced on Friday that it may be forced to mothball its steelworks in Redcar, England. This move would threaten the jobs of the works’ 1,920 employees.

Corus may be forced to close its Teesside operations as a consortium has refused to honour a 10-year contract with Corus’ Teesside Cast Products, which accounted for 78% of the plant’s operations. Corus’ chief executive, Kirby Adams, said he was “extremely disappointed that the consortium members have seen fit to take this irresponsible action.”

Lord Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, said “it is essential that Corus does everything it can legally, and with the government’s assistance, to reinstate the agreement”. Gordon Brown, the British Prime Minister, shared this view saying, “We are doing everything in our power to ensure that the contract is upheld.” Mandelson also said “we are not prepared to reconcile ourselves to the inevitable closure of this plant”.

The leader of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Councillor George Dunning, said “Today is like being hit by a mini earthquake compared to what’s happened in the past.”

Martin Callanan and Stephen Hughes, Tory, and Labour MEPs for North East England, supported the idea that the government should subsidise wages in the plant on a temporary basis. Hughes and Fiona Hall, Lib Dem MEP, suggested that the government should apply to the EU’s Globalisation Adjustment Fund. Hall said “if the worst comes to the worst and jobs are indeed lost, I trust the Government will change its mind and support an application to the European Globalisation Fund in order to fund skills training for those who have lost their jobs.”

This move could “bring to an end a fine heritage of steelmaking at Teesside”, according to Adams. Steelworks in Teesside, which previously belonged to British Steel and Dorman Long, produced steel for famous structures like the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Corus had said it was likely there would be a “very significant number of redundancies” and a 90-day consultation period is due to begin.

Corus’ owner, Tata Steel, are also facing difficulties with another UK operation, automobile company Jaguar Land Rover.

Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has died at the age of 87 after suffering a stroke. Baroness Thatcher was the first woman Prime Minister and served between 1979 and 1990. In 2002, she suffered a number of strokes and was advised by doctors not to engage in public speaking.

Her premiership was notable for military victory in the Falklands War in 1982 and for transforming the British economy in order to compete with other top nations. Her time as Prime Minister also saw the introduction of policies allowing council house residents to purchase their homes, the privatisation of public industries, the passage of the controversial Section 28 policy forbidding the teaching of homosexuality in schools, the year-long strike by miners starting in 1984, and the introduction of the unpopular “poll tax” which resulted in riots.

British Prime Minister David Cameron said: “It was with great sadness that I learned of Lady Thatcher’s death. We’ve lost a great leader, a great Prime Minister and a great Briton”. A spokesperson at Buckingham Palace said that “The Queen was sad to hear the news of the death of Baroness Thatcher. Her Majesty will be sending a private message of sympathy to the family.”

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said on Twitter, “Very sad to hear of death of Baroness Thatcher. Her memory will live long after the world has forgotten the grey suits of today’s politics.”

The British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said, “Margaret Thatcher was one of the defining figures in modern British politics. [...] She may have divided opinion during her time in politics but everyone will be united today in acknowledging the strength of her personality and the radicalism of her politics.”

The Leader of the Labour Party Ed Miliband has said that Margaret Thatcher “will be remembered as a unique figure. She reshaped the politics of a whole generation. She was Britain’s first woman Prime Minister. She moved the centre ground of British politics and was a huge figure on the world stage. [...] She coped with her final, difficult years with dignity and courage. Critics and supporters will remember her in her prime.”

Her successor as Prime Minister, John Major paid tribute to her saying, “Her outstanding characteristics will always be remembered by those who worked closely with her: courage and determination in politics, and humanity and generosity of spirit in private.”

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair also acknowledged how she changed British politics. He said: “Margaret Thatcher was a towering political figure. Very few leaders get to change not only the political landscape of their country but of the world. Margaret was such a leader. Her global impact was vast.”

As Prime Minister Gordon Brown invited Baroness Thatcher to Downing Street in 2007 – he said “During our time in Number 10, Sarah and I invited Lady Thatcher to revisit Downing Street and Chequers – something which we know she enjoyed very much. But it was sad for her and her family that she lost her devoted husband Denis almost 10 years ago and that she was unable to enjoy good health in the later years of her retirement.”

Labour’s Carwyn Jones, the First Minister of Wales said, “Margaret Thatcher was a major force in British political life who undoubtedly had a significant influence on the political, social and economic landscape in Wales and the UK. There’s no doubt about her personal achievement as the first woman to become British Prime Minister. Her place in the history books is assured.”

The American President Barack Obama said “With the passing of Baroness Margaret Thatcher, the world has lost one of the great champions of freedom and liberty, and America has lost a true friend [...] Here in America, many of us will never forget her standing shoulder to shoulder with President Reagan, reminding the world that we are not simply carried along by the currents of history – we can shape them with moral conviction, unyielding courage and iron will.”

Others were more negative about Thatcher’s legacy. Former Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said, “The trouble is that almost everything that’s wrong with Britain today is her legacy”. He added, “She created today’s housing crisis, she created the banking crisis, and she created the benefits crisis. It was her government that started putting people on incapacity benefit rather than register as unemployed because the Britain she inherited was at broadly full employment. [...] In actual fact, every real problem we face today is the legacy of the fact she was fundamentally wrong.”

Judith Orr, editor of the UK weekly newspaper Socialist Worker said, “We’ll be glad to see the back of her”. She added, “She ruined the lives of tens of millions of working class people in Britain. And she rejoiced in war. She was the one who said we should rejoice in the sinking of the Belgrano, in the deaths of hundreds of young Argentine conscripts. That was one of her most disgusting moments, but there is a long list of crimes.”

The Union flag at Downing Street and Buckingham Palace are both flying at half-mast as a sign of respect to her memory. She is due to receive a ceremonial funeral with full military honours similarly to that of Sir Winston Churchill which will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

How to Find the Perfect Property Investment

by

Ben Greenwood

Thanks to rising demand for rental properties, the buy to let market is currently booming, which makes it an excellent time to think about buying an investment property. But how do you go about finding the perfect property to invest in and what things should you look out for?

Investment property is everywhere. From a three bed family home on a suburban housing estate to a waterfront flat in a smart new property development, but what suits one investor might not suit another, so you need to decide what your property investment objectives are and draw up a list of selection criteria before approaching an estate agent.

Think about the rental market you are aiming for: student accommodation, holiday lets and social housing are just three of the rental markets in the UK today. Consider the local amenities on offer and try to view properties as an investor rather than a potential homeowner.

YouTube Preview Image

Before you start looking at property, decide which geographical area you are interested in. Investing in property near to where you live is always sensible because this makes it easier to manage the property, but buying an investment property in a different area (or even a different country) may be a possible course of action.

Estate agents can be your allies when searching for the right investment property. A good estate agent will be familiar with the local property market and should be able to offer you plenty of pertinent advice if you are new to property investment. However, it is worth contacting as many estate agents as possible and making sure you are on all the mailing lists to be sure you don t miss out if something suitable comes up for sale. But be aware you are unlikely to be the only person looking for the perfect investment property, so make a point of staying in touch with the local estate agents. Periodically call them or drop in to remind them of who you are and what type of property you are interested in they are more likely to remember you if you stay in touch.

Alternative ways to find the perfect investment property

1.An estate agent is the best starting point when looking for investment property, but keep an eye on the local press and don t be afraid to go door to door in a prime area to ask local residents if they know of any properties likely to be coming on to the market in the near future.

2.There are millions of empty homes around the UK, many of which are not officially up for sale, but are potentially available for purchase if you know whom to contact. These can often be a great investment, so if you become aware of an empty property in a prime location, do a little investigative work.

3.Property auctions can be useful if you have the available funds and understand the legally binding nature of the buying process, but these are probably best avoided unless you are an experienced investor.

4.If you have the skills, do not be afraid to take on a run-down property in need of work.
